The Brave Collection

The Brave Collection is a line of jewelry handmade in Cambodia to support local artisans and fight human trafficking.

Courage is contagious.

Last night a group of women of varying ages and diverse backgrounds gathered together at a overwhelmingly picturesque location on The Upper East Side to participate in an Article Club meeting. The event was the brain child of the ever brilliant Kayleigh Pleas, a long time friend, mentor, and source of inspiration of mine. She started these events with a small group of friends on the floor of her intimate downtown apartment, and although the location has been upgraded and the group of women has grown the intention remains the same - to build a community of women who are present, open, and connected with one another.
While we typically gather to discuss articles, this time we discussed an interview of Dr. Brene Brown.
If you have a fifty minutes to spare I highly encourage you take a listen to her talk: (http://www.onbeing.org/program/brene-brown-on-vulnerability/4928).

Brene Brown’s research is changing the way we understand courage. Her research is giving us the language to understand and celebrate vulnerability as the birthplace of courage and everything that makes life worth living!

The Brave Collection is so grateful to have played a part in something that was so in line with our ethos and very nature. We met such a glorious group of Brave women and can only hope to continue participating in and providing events, like this one, for women in the future.
Because after all - courage is contagious.

On the way to work this morning I found the beautifully gentle reminder that I am right where I need to be.
Be Brave. Be Strong.

This should be beautifully eye-opening, engaging, and powerful.

More Than A Survivor Photo Exhibit By GEMS National Survivor Leadership Institute!
The Exhibition
GEMS is proud to invite you to the launch of the More Than A Survivor campaign and photography exhibition. A project of GEMS National Survivor Leadership Institute and Resource Center, More Than A Survivor: More Than A Story features a series of stunning portraits of 22 women from across the country who are all survivor leaders in a variety of venues from the arts to politics to science to the non-profit community and more. The More Than A Survivor photography exhibition honors their diversity, beauty, strength, accomplishments and leadership and celebrates their present and their future. The exhibition features the leadership of survivors in their communities, their families and in their own lives and presents their images and words as a powerful antidote to the stereotypes of commercially sexually exploited and trafficked victims perpetually broken and forever limited by their trauma. We invite you to join us for an evening of hope and inspiration as we launch the More Than A Survivor campaign and work together to redefine survivor leadership.

We are really hoping to make it to this next Saturday to meet the six Cambodian artists who have been in residence on Governor’s Island since April 2013.
